TECTONOPHYSICS I ELSEVIER Tectonophysics () Breccia formation at a complex impact crater: Slate Islands, Lake Superior, Ontario, Canada B.O. Dressier *, Northern Lake Superior book. Clastic breccias at the Slates Islands complex impact structure, northern Lake Superior. [Burkhard O Dressler; United States. National Aeronautics and Space Administration.;].
We describe in some detail the various clastic breccias encountered on the islands during our and field work and relate them to the various phases of the impact process. The Slate Islands impact structure is the eroded remnant of a ∼30–32 km-diameter complex impact structure located in northern Lake Superior, Ontario, Canada.
Focusing on clastic systems, and using a combination of seismic examples and models, we present two aspects of stratigraphic trap exploration: (1) the regional and local factors that favour the development of stratigraphic trap edges; and (2) a systematic method for defining and risking the trap edges, avoiding the common problem of over-risking.
Abstract Geological strain analysis of sedimentary rocks is commonly carried out using clast-based techniques. In the absence of valid strain markers, it can be difficult to identify the presence of an early tectonic fabric development and resulting layer parallel shortening (LPS).

It is obvious now that Darwin did not quite understand the complex structure of the region, as can be seen in the geological map of figure 2, where a western backthrust puts the Auquilco Formation on top of the Agrio Formation and a second fore-thrust repeats again the Agrio and Chachao Formations (Pángaro et al.Giambiagi et al.

Establishment and Definition of the Metamorphic Zones: In his pioneer work upon progressive metamorphism in the Scottish Highlands, Barrow ( and ) established a sequence of metamorphic zones based upon the mineralogical changes observed to take place in sediments of pelitic composition, with gradually increasing metamorphism.
